1. The 14 allergens
By law, these 14 allergens must be declared in food: celery, cereals containing gluten (wheat, rye, barley and oats), crustaceans, eggs, fish, lupin, milk, molluscs, mustard, tree nuts, peanuts, sesame, soya, and sulphur dioxide or sulphites above 10mg per kg or litre.
2. Where to find allergen information
- On the label: pre-packed products carry an ingredients list with allergens emphasised, as the Food Information Regulations 2014 require.
- From us: for any product we supply, ask our team and we will give you the allergen and ingredient information we hold, in writing if you want it. We can also send a product specification where the supplier provides one.
- In the app: where we hold allergen details for a product they are shown on its page. If nothing is shown it means we have not yet loaded it, not that the product is free of allergens.
3. If you serve food to your own customers
Your business is responsible for the allergen information it gives its own customers. Keep the labels or the written information we give you, and pass changes on. Recipes and suppliers can change, so check the label on each delivery.
Where we supply goods loose or repack them, we give you the allergen information in writing with the goods or on request.
4. Cross-contamination
Our warehouse handles many products that contain allergens, including milk, gluten, sesame, nuts, eggs and fish. We cannot guarantee that any product is free from traces of allergens.
5. We never guess
If we do not have the information, we will say so and ask the supplier. Contact us on 0121 798 0545 or support@gyroscitywholesalers.co.uk with the product name and pack size, and tell us the allergen you are asking about.
